Brighton Photo Biennial 2006 Conference
Date: Oct 28th 2006
Description:
AMERICA, SEEN THROUGH PHOTOGRAPHS, DARKLY
Brighton Photo Biennial presented its 2006 Conference at the Pavilion Theatre, New Road, Brighton, organised by David Green of the School of Historical and Critical Studies, University of Brighton, in association with Brighton Photo Biennial.
In response to the issues raised by the work being shown at the Biennial’s central exhibition Nothing Personal, curated by Gilane Tawadros at Brighton Museum and Art Gallery, this conference brought together a range of internationally renowned speakers drawn from across the fields of art history, literary and cultural studies to debate the question of the imaging of America through both historical and contemporary photographic practices:
Dr. Caroline Blinder
(Lecturer in American Studies at Goldsmiths College, University of London)
Michael Corris
(Professor of Fine Art at Newport School of Art and Design, University of Wales)
Jonathan Harris
(Professor of History of Art, Liverpool University)
Dr. Nancy Jachec
(Senior Lecturer in Art History, Oxford Brookes University)
Dr. Julian Stallabrass
(Courtauld Institute of Art, London)
