Mitra Tabrizian studied film and photography at the University of Westminster, London. Her work combines techniques from documentary photography, reportage and advertising to make the viewer aware of the ideologies underlying the construction of cultural identities. She has exhibited widely and in major international institutions including the Victoria & Albert Museum, London; ICA, London; Museum of Photography, Tokyo and the New Museum of Contemporary Art, New York. Her two short films Journey of No Return (1993) and The Third Woman (1991) have been screened internationally at festivals and museums. She has widely published articles and photo-essays in numerous international newspapers and magazines, including Third Text and Camera Austria. Her monograph Correct Distance appeared in 1990, published by Cornerhouse. The artist lives and works in London.
